Aruna D. Abhayagoonawardhana

Mr. Aruna Abhayagoonawardhana is a mechanical engineer/project manager. He has worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma since graduating from the University of Oklahoma. He has experience in a variety of mechanical/civil projects at Tinker Air Force Base Civil Engineering. You will find Mr. Abhayagoonawardhana's experience to be diverse in civil and mechanical arenas. He has designed various civil and mechanical projects for Tinker Air Force Base. The projects he designed include: HVAC, DDC controls, sewer rest room renovation, fuel test cells, industrial waste, lift stations, breathing air, fuel product recovery systems, chemical storage ventilation system, water softeners, soap mixing system for airplane hanger's emergency eyewash, and compressed air.

Mr. Abhayagoonawardhana received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering for the University of Okalahoma and graduated from the Automobile Engineering Training Institute in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has extensive experience in Government contract.

In addition to work experience, Mr. Abhayagoonawardhana extensively devotes his time to ASHRAE and currently serves as the president of the Central Oklahoma Chapter. He is a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Society of Military Engineers, and the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers. He is an Engineering Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America. He also served as the vice president (external affairs) for the International Advisory Board at the University of Oklahoma. In 1999 he was recognized as an honorary citizen of the state of Oklahoma by Governor Frank Keating.

Mr. Abhayagoonawardhana was awarded the Wolf award in 1999 for Innovative Aircraft Design and Technology. He was also awarded the NASA/FAA General Aviation Design Competition award in 1999 and 2000. In 1999-2000, he placed second in the AIAA Foundation Ground Test Technical Student Engineering contest for his design of energy absorbing seats.
