Lynn Kitchen, Ph.D.
Dr. Kitchen is an environmental scientist with broad-based experience in several aspects of environmental studies. Upon completion of his Ph.D., he was employed by Louisiana State University to conduct research on cropland ecology and herbicide research in sugarcane. This work expanded to include other crops including corn, soybeans, cotton, and wheat. He also administered a graduate program for both M.S. and Ph.D. students whose research focused on crop/weed ecology, integrated pest management, and herbicide metabolism in plants and soils. While working as a Research Farm Manager for Dow Chemical, USA, Dr. Kitchen coordinated herbicide and pesticide research on the research farm and off-site research in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri. Research focused on pesticide efficacy tests, application techniques, and soil/plant residue studies under EPA Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) guidelines. In 1991, Dr. Kitchen initiated a career with Malcolm Pirnie where he served as a senior environmental scientist for 5 years. His area of expertise included environmental assessments, solid and hazardous waste management, wetland delineations and mitigation, and environmental compliance audits. As an assistant professor at UTSA, Dr. Kitchen developed a program to develop practical methodologies for the use of GIS and Global Positioning Systems for modeling and solving environmental problems. In 1997, Dr. Kitchen was hired by Operational Technologies Corporation to manage the Environmental Science Group. He served as project manager for many projects with an emphasis on GIS, environmental assessments, wetland delineations and mitigation, stream rechanneling and biological studies. He is currently the Principal Scientist at Adams Environmental, Inc., and a part-time Senior Lecturer at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he teaches introduction to GIS.
Dr. Kitchen received his Ph.D. in Agronomy-Crop Science from the University of Kentucky; and a M.S. in Range Science and B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University.
